Every Christian should have a regular daily Bible Study time. Over the years I have observed that many Christians do not study the Bible. They may read the Bible occasionally but never study it. As Christians we must have a good knowledge of God’s Word in order to know who we are in Christ. We must know our true identity and our inheritance through Christ Jesus. We cannot be a good witness or be victorious in our Christian walk without knowledge of God’s Word. The following are some tips that will help with your study of God’s Living Word.
1) Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten your understanding of the Word before and after you study the Word.
2) Make a habit of studying and thinking about the Word and how it applies in your daily life.
3) Study the New Testament first especially the book of Romans all the way through to the book of Revelations. These books of the Bible teach us who we are in Christ after the Cross. Also study the 4 Gospels and Acts. Reference the Old Testament as you study but concentrate your study on the New Testament.
4) As you study pay close attention to the Promises and the Commandments.
5) Pay close attention to the little words and phrases such as: If, but, put, let, I am, therefore, shall, is, in him, in us, will etc. —- These key words and phrases represent conditions and commandments. Overlooking will change the meaning of the verse.
6) The Bible will confirm itself.
7) Study the surrounding verses.
8) Study related verses.
9) As you read the bible take time to study and meditate on each parable, promise, or section.
10) Apply the Word to yourself personally.
11) Allow the Holy Spirit to make the Word a reality in your heart.
12) Carefully ponder how the Word applies to your everyday life.
13) Dwell on how the Word changes your situation.
14) See yourself as God sees you.
15) Realize the integrity of God’s Word.
16) Filter everything through the Word, God’s character and ways.
17) Confess what the Word says, not your problem.
18) Pray the Word (especially the promises) not the problem.
