What do we need to do to guard our hearts so that the Word will abide?
Proverbs 4: 24 – 27 Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you. (25) Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.(26) Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright. (27) Turn not aside to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil. (Amplified Classic)
Proverbs 4: 20 – 27 is in the context of a commandment
Attend or give attention to – This means that there is an action required on our part. Not just listen to them but to do what they say, apply them.
In order for the Word to bring forth the life and health we must do the following:
1- Attend to His Word (Amplified = consent and submit)
2- Let them not depart from our sight
3- Keep them in the center of our heart
4- Keep and guard our heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard for out of it flow the springs of life
5- Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you
6- Let your eyes look right on with fixed purpose, and let your gaze be straight before you
7- Consider well the path of your feet
8- Let all your ways be established and ordered aright.
John 1: 1 IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. (Amplified Classic)
Not only is God Himself the source of The Living Word but The Living Word IS God Himself. God and His Word are One.
God IS Love! The Being Love. Absolute Love.
1st John 4: 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. (NKJV)
1st John 4: 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (NKJV)
Because God IS Love, The Being, and God and His Word are One then God’s Word IS Love.
Because God Is absolute Life and God and His Word are One then God’s Word Is Alive, absolute Life.
Because God and His Living Word are One and God cannot lie God’s Living Word Is Absolute Truth.
God’s Living Word Is Absolute Truth. His Word is His bond.
Just as God never changes God’s Nature or Ways do not change; neither does His Word.
Hebrews 13: 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (NKJV)
God’s Living Word has Absolute Integrity. God’s Living Word is Absolute Truth.
Psalm 111: 7 – 8 The works of His hands are [absolute] truth and justice [faithful and right]; and all His decrees and precepts are sure (fixed, established, and trustworthy). (8) They stand fast and are established forever and ever and are done in [absolute] truth and uprightness. (Amplified Classic)
God Himself has invited each of us into the secret place of His rest. We are the ones who must choose to enter the place of His rest.
Part of God’s own Rest is His Communion with Man. This is one of God’s Greatest Desires.
It was and still is God’s intention that all His people would dwell in the secret place of His rest. But we must choose to enter that place of rest.
Hebrews 4: 10 – 11 For he who has once entered [God’s] rest also has ceased from [the weariness and pain] of human labors, just as God rested from those labors peculiarly His own. (11)Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell]. (Amplified Classic)
Psalm 91: 1 – 2 HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. (2) I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! (Amplified Classic)
In order to enter His Rest we must first come to Him, We must bring our lives just as they are! We must be born again. He will then qualify us to enter His Rest.
John 3: 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”(NKJV)
John 3: 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (NKJV)
If we have not received Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we cannot enter the Secret Place of God’s Rest.
Anyone who is Born Again can enter into The Secret Place of God’s Rest but We must walk the Love Walk and be Spiritually Minded
Romans 8: 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (NKJV)
The Word says that we are to dwell, live, and abide continuously in The Secret Place of God’s Rest.In Order to dwell, live, and abide in The Secret Place of God’s Rest, The Word must live and abide in our hearts. The Word must be first place and final authority in every area of our lives.
***If you have made Jesus Your Lord and Savior you are never alone and without hope.
Hope or Hopelessness? Our focus in life determines which we will walk in.
Hopelessness can slip up on us if we are focusing on the wrong thing.
If we are continuously focusing on the problem, we will be building the problem and be on our way to hopelessness.
What we focus on the most becomes who we are.
No matter what the problems in life are, they are temporary. Your eternity is not temporary. It is eternal without end. You decide where your focus should be.
We need to change our focus in life to see our lives and the lives of others through the eyes of Love and God’s Living Word.
The Lord’s focus is upon us.
Place your focus in life on God and His Word and watch the circumstances in your life change.
No matter what the problem is the Lord already knows the answer. He will guide us if we set our love and hope on Him.
1 To adjust your eye, a lens, a TV, or similar item to produce a clearer image.
2 To fix or settle on one thing; to concentrate
3 To focus one’s attention on a specific subject or question.
One of the main tactics that the enemy uses is to try and keep our focus on the wrong thing. He works hard at drawing our focus away from God and His Living Word.
Throughout Scripture we see people who had their Faith and Life focus on God and His Living Word.
In order for their Faith to work they had to be Focused on Love, the Word, and Faith. Faith works by Love. Faith is applied to the Word.
They corrected themselves, their emotions, and the way they responded to the circumstances of life based on God and His Word.
Their life focus was their relationship with God.The same should be true of every Christian.
Psalm 25: 1 – 2 UNTO YOU, O Lord, do I bring my life. (2a) O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You. (Amplified Classic)
Psalm 27: 1 THE LORD is my Light and my Salvation–whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life–of whom shall I be afraid? (Amplified Classic)
What in your life do you focus on the most? What is Your Life Focus? What we focus on the most becomes who we are.
To be successful in any area of life we must be focused in that area. If we are not focused, we will not be successful.
We must decide where our focus should be. What we focus on goes farther than just being successful in this life. Our life focus will determine our destiny in this life and our eternity that follows.
God gave man the right to choose. He will back our choice. The choices we make determines our focus.
Romans 8: 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (NKJV)
Matthew 6: 33 – 34 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. (34) So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble. (Amplified Classic)
Our Life Focus must be on God’s Living Word first of all.
Colossians 3: 1 – 3 IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (2) And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. (3) For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God. (Amplified Classic)
Colossians 3: 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (NKJV)
We find examples of fretting and envy throughout scripture.
Genesis 4 Cain envied Abel and killed him.
Genesis 26 we find the Philistines envied Abraham because of the great number of the flocks of sheep, herds of cattle, servants and other possessions that he had.
Genesis 37 Joseph’s brothers envied him selling him to the Egyptians.
Matthew 27: 18 and Mark 15: 10 we find that Pilate knew that the Jews had handed Jesus over to be crucified because of envy.
Psalm 37: 1 – 8 (Amplified Classic) FRET NOT yourself because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness (that which is not upright or in right standing with God). (2) For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. (3) Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed. (4) Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. (5) Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass. (6) And He will make your uprightness and right standing with God go forth as the light, and your justice and right as [the shining sun of] the noonday. (7) Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass. (8) Cease from anger and forsake wrath; fret not yourself–it tends only to evildoing.
James 3: 13 – 18 (NKJV) Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. (14) But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. (15) This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. (16) For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. (17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. (18) Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
James 3: 16 (Amplified Classic)For wherever there is jealousy (envy) and contention (rivalry and selfish ambition), there will also be confusion (unrest, disharmony, rebellion) and all sorts of evil and vile practices.
In order to properly understand what it means to trust in the Lord we must understand that Trust cannot be earned it must be granted. A person can position themselves to be trustworthy but cannot earn trust. No matter what a person does to become trustworthy that trust must be granted it cannot be earned.
Our trust in God and His Living Word must be on a higher level than our trust in anyone or anything else. God and His Living Word are ABSOLUTE TRUTH.
The Amplified Bible says to believe in God is to adhere to, trust in, and rely on God.
When I truly set my love upon God and habitually walk the Love Walk as a lifestyle, I will trust God no matter what takes place in my life.
When we trust God, we position ourselves for Him to accomplish His Will in our lives.
Psalm 31: 19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear, revere, and worship You, goodness which You have wrought for those who trust and take refuge in You before the sons of men! (Amplified Classic)
I cannot truly Trust the Lord without setting my Love upon Him. Setting my Love upon Him opens the door for God to pour out His Blessings upon us.
Psalm 91: 14 – 16 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness–trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. (15) He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. (16) With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation. (Amplified Classic)
God has already determined the path that He desires for our life. Our job is to discover and align ourselves with that plan, not create our own. When we truly trust God, we align ourselves with His Way not ours. He is our life, our shield, and our refuge.
Psalm 18: 30 As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him. (Amplified Classic)
We must trust God no matter what takes place or what we may think or feel.
The biggest enemy to the love of God is love of self. You must get rid of selfishness in order to walk in the love of God.
You must be willing to put God’s will above your own desires and above everything else in your life. That is what it really means to love God.
What do you have on the throne of your heart as a priority?
What keeps you from your time with the Lord or doing what you already know to do?
What are you so tied to that it effects your time with the Lord?
Many people tie themselves to money, houses, other people, and pleasures instead of God. However, you cannot get so tied to those things that you forget God.
Matthew 6: 33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. (34) So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble. (Amplified Classic)
Loving God, setting your love upon Him, requires that you tie yourself to Him and Him alone. He should be your number one priority.
Proverbs 3: 5 – 6 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. (6) In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. (Amplified Classic)
Psalm 31: 1a In You O Lord do I put my trust and seek refuge. (Amplified Classic)
Confidence must be developed. We must develop confidence in God and His Word before the problem or issue comes. We need to practice our trust and confidence in God and His Word every day in every circumstance and situation of life. Not just when problems are present. If we wait till the problem arrives, we will have a difficult time developing our confidence.
If we really had the confidence and trust in God and His Word that we say we have, we would respond differently to the problems and circumstances of life. If I really do have confidence in God and His Word, I will trust Him in every area of my life.
David knew where to place his confidence. It was a habitual lifestyle for David. You find him constantly declaring his confidence in God and His Word. Do you?
Like David many of us have had some trouble in our lives but let’s take a look at how David handled the troubles and problems that he faced in life. We should be responding in the same way.
Psalm 56: 3 What time I am afraid, I will have confidence in and put my trust and reliance in You. (Amplified Classic)
Psalm 31: 14 – 15 But I trusted in, relied on, and was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God.(15) My times are in Your hands;(Amplified Classic)
Psalm 25: 1 – 2a Unto You O Lord do I bring my life. O my God I Trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in you. (Amplified Classic)
Psalm 31: 5 Into Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, the God of truth and faithfulness. (Amplified Classic)
Proverbs 4: 23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. (Amplified Classic)
Ephesians 6: 10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. (Amplified Classic)
Ephesians 3: 16 – 21 May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality]. (17) May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, (18) That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; (19) [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]! (20) Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]– (21) To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it). (Amplified Classic)
1st Corinthians 13: 4 – 8a Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. (5) It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. (6) It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. (7) Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. (8a) Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end].(Amplified Classic)
A person who is walking in the Spirit having an established heart will be walking in the fruit of the Spirit.
An established heart is fixed, steadfast, unwavering, trusting in the Lord always and in all circumstances no matter what those circumstances are. The established heart does not weaver in times of trouble or distress.
A person who wavers or a person who is controlled by their feelings and emotions does not have an established heart. The person who wavers is a person who is being ruled by their feelings and emotions. They are carnally minded. Fear, worry, and depression are ruling in their lives. They are troubled minded. They focus on the problem instead of the answer.
A person with an established heart does not worry, fret, or fear. They do not focus on the problem but on the answer.
We cannot walk in the Spirit and be carnally minded. In order to walk in the Spirit we have to have an established heart and be Spiritually minded.
A person with an established heart has their focus on God’s Word. God’s Living Word is abiding in their hearts.
John 15: 7 (Amplified Classic) If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
A person with an established heart is always prepared and ready unmoving no matter what happens.
A person with an established heart has set their love upon the Father.
An established heart is Spiritually minded, and God’s Word ruled. God and His Living Word is first place in this person’s life. They are not ruled by their senses, emotions, or feelings.
An established heart is fixed, steadfast, unwavering, trusting in the Lord always and in all circumstances no matter what those circumstances are. The established heart does not weaver in times of trouble or distress. A person with an established heart does not worry, fret, or fear. They do not focus on the problem but on the answer.

The person with an established heart or who is Spiritually minded will be God and others centered, not self-centered.
Proverbs 4: 23Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. (Amplified Classic)
Colossians 3: 1 – 3IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Psalm 25: 1UNTO YOU, O Lord, do I bring my life. (2) O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You… (Amplified Classic)
2 Tim. 2: 22 Shun youthful lusts and flee from them, and aim at and pursue righteousness (all that is virtuous and good, right living, conformity to the will of God in thought, word, and deed); [and aim at and pursue] faith, love, [and] peace (harmony and concord with others) in fellowship with all [Christians], who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart. (Amplified Classic)
Walking in agape love requires development and training.
It is vital that we develop and strengthen our inner man or our Spirit Man which is the real man.
We cannot be successful in developing and building our Love Walk without the Holy Spirit who lives and abides in every Born-Again Believer. He is our Helper in the developing process.
Ephesians 3: 16 – 19 May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality]. (17) May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! (Amplified Classic)
A sign of the end times is when love grows cold among people.
Matthew 24: 12 – 14 (Amplified Classic) And the love of the great body of people will grow cold because of the multiplied lawlessness and iniquity, (13) But he who endures to the end will be saved. (14) And this good news of the kingdom (the Gospel) will be preached throughout the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then will come the end.
How do I prepare for the End Times? Some people never think about or ask this question. We live like there will be no end times.
Matthew 24: 35 – 42 (Amplified Classic) Sky and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. (36) But of that [exact] day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (37) As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. (38) For just as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, [men] marrying and [women] being given in marriage, until the [very] day when Noah went into the ark, (39) And they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away–so will be the coming of the Son of Man. (40) At that time two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. (41) Two women will be grinding at the hand mill; one will be taken and one will be left. (42) Watch therefore [give strict attention, be cautious and active], for you do not know in what kind of a day [whether a near or remote one] your Lord is coming.
Matthew 25: 13 (Amplified Classic) Watch therefore [give strict attention and be cautious and active], for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man will come.
Romans 13: 11 – 12 (Amplified Classic) Besides this you know what [a critical] hour this is, how it is high time now for you to wake up out of your sleep (rouse to reality). For salvation (final deliverance) is nearer to us now than when we first believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Christ, the Messiah). (12) The night is far gone and the day is almost here. Let us then drop (fling away) the works and deeds of darkness and put on the [full] armor of light.
Luke 21: 34 (Amplified Classic)But take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to [the business of] this life, and [lest] that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose; (35) For it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth. (36) Keep awake then and watch at all times [be discreet, attentive, and ready], praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things [taken together] that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.
Colossians 1: 9 – 14 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; (10) that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; (11) strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; (12) giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. (13) He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, (14) in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (NKJV)
As believers, it is essential that we know and understand God’s Love and Mercy. That we develop trust in His Love and Mercy. This is the message that He so deeply desires for the world to know. It is our message to a dark and hurting world.
If we are to have faith and confidence in Him, we must trust in His mercy.
We must Develop Faith in the Mercy of God. God is faithful to His mercy.
Deuteronomy 7: 9 (NKJV) Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
2nd Thessalonians 3: 3 (NKJV) But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
The entire Word of God emphasizes God’s Love, Mercy, and Goodness. We can trust in His Mercy. His Mercy endures forever.
Psalm 145: 9 (NKJV) The LORD is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.
Psalm 106: 1 Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
God the Father wants us to trust and have confidence in His mercy. He wants us to build our faith concerning His love and mercy. He desires for us to step out on it and give Him a chance to demonstrate His mercy toward us.
An established heart is fixed, steadfast, unwavering, trusting in the Lord always and in all circumstances no matter what those circumstances are. The established heart does not weaver in times of trouble or distress. A person with an established heart does not worry, fret, or fear. They do not focus on the problem but on the answer.
A person who has an established heart is a person who walks the Love Walk no matter what the circumstances are. The person with an established heart has set their love upon the Father. This person will be walking in the fruit of the Spirit.
The Person with an established heart is Spiritually minded, and God’s Word ruled. God and His Living Word is first place in this person’s life. They are not ruled by their senses, emotions, or feelings. God and His Living Word are first place in this person’s life. The person with an established heart or who is Spiritually minded will be God and others centered, not self-centered.
Proverbs 4: 23 (Amplified Classic) Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.
Colossians 3: 1 – 3 (Amplified Classic)IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Psalm 25: 1(Amplified Classic) UNTO YOU, O Lord, do I bring my life. (2) O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You…
